Sex and Waffles?!
Amsterdam is a weird but wonderful place, its like everyone
has somewhere to be, an agenda and they have to abide by a certain way of
getting there. It makes you question the population as you’re surrounded by
bikes no matter what part you’re in, however there’s never a car out of sight
either. The canals are endless and it’s very easy to walk in circles with all
the little side allays. But it’s the perfect place to get away for a few days.
The most amusing thing I found was when walking round the
city and when we stumbled around near the red light district it seemed that one
street went, sex shop, waffle shop, sex shop, waffle shop, sex shop, waffle
shop etc. I found it rather amusing. I don’t think ive ever seen that many
waffle shops in my life.
But since were on the sex topic I might as well make this
the sex part of Amsterdam. We accidently stumbled across the famous red light
district the first time, we decided to take a turn and walk along the canal
side when all of a sudden I noticed quite a few sex shops and strip clubs so it
triggered in my head that we might be on the strip but it wasn’t confirmed
until I turned my head and saw a lovely lady stood in the window.
We went back to our room and I expressed I wanted to walk
down the red light district at night to see it in its full potential. Before we
went back out I ended up reading articles on the girls in the red light
district and an interview with a lovely lady who had worked in the scene for
15years. I ended up feeling fascinated around the culture that comes along with
the district and how its changed over the years.
When taking a walk back down the district there were more
girls out in the windows and I felt guilty for walking down just to look at
them without wanting their service. But I also know if I did want their service
they would 100% destroy me. So I felt it was best for both me and them that
instead I stood there admiring there confidence and ability to work in an industry
so harshly criticized.
There are many strip clubs and bars along the canal side and
one is a booth style which I read about and would have loved to go in and see
it however my wonderful partner is a Christian whom I respect and when we
stumbled into the sex museum at the recommendation of my lovely friend Olivia,
he wasn’t too amused, but maybe because we both found it a little confusing and
gimmicky, I felt like I paid to go look at some porn images but with a bunch of
other people looking with me. Also if you go can we please address how creepy
one of the figures in in the ‘red light’ bit of the ‘museum’? if that creature
had jumped out at me I think I might have cried. So thanks Olivia for that
recommendation -.-
Final opinion, go down the red light district to admire
those hard working ladies, try and avoid the sex museum.
