Elizabeth is missing - Book review

Elizabeth is Missing is a book that’s been on my ‘to read’ list for ages now that I cant believe I actually picked It up. You have those books that you look at for ages but they never fully make it back to your home because the comfort of knowing if you cant find anything its there, is better than the comfort of reading it.

However 6days after purchasing It, it was finished. I stayed up till midnight just to finish it.

Its one of those books that you cant put down, because the deeper you go into it the more the answer seems to be just on the next page. But we all know its not there until the last page.
The book follows Maud, a lady who cant remember things. Who knows her friend, Elizabeth, is missing because a note in her pocket says so.
Maud writes notes, the problem is Maud cant remember if the notes are from today or not.

The first part of this book broke my heart. I have a lot of people in my family who have Alzheimer’s and this book detailed what it would be like for day to day life for them. It scared me a little and I almost stopped reading because I couldn’t handle what it was doing to my heart.
But I am glad I didn’t as the bigger storyline about finding Elizabeth and Maud’s older sister Sukey was worth it.

Although the book is called Elizabeth is missing, we delve more into the storyline of her sister Sukey who went missing when Maud was younger. Its interesting watching her brain flashback to her younger self and get lost in that world, and unfortunately confuse it with her current life. I have so many theories while reading this book that I wont say due to spoilers but I was shocked by how much it kept me guessing with such a simple storyline.

Ive been reading a lot of Young Adult books recently and was a little scared that the writing would be too advanced/too much for an easy read for a holiday. But I must say, it was the perfect way to dive back into ‘adult books’ after a lot of reads that I found were too young for me.
I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a different but gripping read, to pick this book up.
I rate it 4/5 stars.
