Aucklands hidden waterfall
Since being back in New Zealand I’ve been craving being next
a waterfall again, so one sunny Sunday I googled a fall I knew we hadn’t been
to but was always on the list from years before. We jumped in the car, opened
google maps and tried to navigate our way to Hunua falls.
An hour an a bit later we get to the park to find out its closed.
I was gutted and knew I didn’t want anything to ruin our day so as we started to head back to the city while I googled waterfalls nearby.
Lucky for us we discovered there was a lovely little fall hidden in Mt. Albert just outside of the CBD, the last place you would expect to find a waterfall. We parked up at a playing field and joked about the fact it had taken us two hours to drive here(if we had headed straight here it would have been 20minsmax.)

The fall itself is called Oakley creek waterfall and is set in between about 3 reserves. It’s a biker’s hotspot and on a beautiful day you can see why.
It hard to navigate exactly where the fall is when you first enter from the unitech buildings, you can hear the water rushing but if you turn right, like we did, you get a beautiful walk around the reserve with picture opportunity’s. If you cross the bridge and turn left, there’s the fall.
Being the first fall we visited being back it was perfect, sitting right in front on the rocks I could feel the mist on my face and just hear the water rushing beneath me and I felt at peace. It reminded me why I like waterfalls so much. They’re such a magical part of nature, completely god made and people flock to them to see their beauty. They often provide adventures, treks, road trips, climbing and it’s everything I love about them. Because when you reach the top, you get peace.
This was our first adventure back in New Zealand, and
although it wasn’t the one we were hoping for, it was still perfect for us. If you’re
around Auckland central and want to get out of the polluted city then venture
to Oakley creek!
