BaristaCats Cafe

The BaristaCats cafe is tucked up a side street at the bottom end of Queen street and above Mojo coffee. Ive walked past the billboard that sits on the street thousands of times.

It had been something we’d discussed going to for a long time so with my birthday coming up I decided it was the perfect excuse to go. We booked in for 1pm on a Saturday and the session was fully booked from online. It was the only one of the day that was fully booked so you can always try and drop in but if you are planning on going id always recommend booking just to be safe, plus its cheaper.

Each session is for an hour and they let people in every half hour so it’s a rotating amount of people in the café.
The first part is your standard café with a few cats lounging around, and then up the stairs is more lounge seating and a cats playground.

Entering you get a brief tour of the café and information on the cats, what to do, what not to do. The café is filled with disabled cats and a few cats that are up for adoption.
I had no idea that it was filled with disabled cats and my heart skipped a beat knowing my money was going to a good cause and not just me wanting to pet a cat.

There was a white deaf cat who was sleeping when we came in, there are notes plastered around the area warning not to just touch her if she is sleeping for, obvious, reasons. However she awoke when we were having our drinks and snacks, the cookies by the way are highly recommended to add to the sweet day. And she is far from shy, immediately trying to jump up onto me we developed a sweet little friendship.

There was a beautiful cat missing a leg just chilling watching the TV, there were two snuggled together on the couch, a few curled up in their play areas. As long as you treat the cats with respect, remembering that they have disabilities and probably get annoyed with being touched all day, they show you love back.
Being able to have a coffee and cookie and chats with good friends while beautiful cats are chilling around us was such a cool thing. When we entered the Café it was very quiet however within out last 10minutes it was filled and you can see why they have caps on people as it was overwhelming for myself let alone the cats.

But I would recommend if you need a cat fix and want to pet some cute disable cats and see some beautiful ones up for adoption head on into the BaristaCat café next time your sick of shopping on Queen street. And when you’re done pop straight across to get a tattoo while youre at it.
