Discovering Auckland.
On this week’s segment of discovering Auckland I welcome you to two new places I found and am now in love with.
Its crazy how you can visit a town countless times, move into the town and still everyday end up finding new places that you’ve walked past a bunch of times before and your eyes weren’t wide enough to see.
The first is a vintage store called Magic Hollow, it has a online store but is located on Vulcan Lane in Aucklands CBD. It is a wonderful vintage store which specialises in American imports. On our first visit in I fell in love with a red bomber jacket with a bobcat symbol on the back and the name ‘Johnson’ embroided on the front and ‘Beville staff’ on the other side. It was legit love at first sight, it was a size small and I couldn’t bring myself to try it on because I couldn’t afford it just yet.
But everyday I thought about the jacket, I waited and waited and 3 weeks later I ran back to Magic Hollow to thankfully find it there. 5minutes later it was mine and I have yet to take it off. I kid.
However the coolest part about this jacket is that on the inside label is the name Johnson handwritten. I don’t know who Johnson is, I’ve googled bobcats and Beville staff countless time and nothing. I feel privileged to own his jacket that clearly was treasured, so now when I get asked about it I say I am living on his legacy
.It is crazy to think Id walked past and up/down Vulcan lane countless times yet never discovered it hidden in plain sight. It is a wonderfully stylish spot and if you’re in Auckland and need a vintage outfit fix me up, Magic Hollow is your place.
The second hidden beauty I found in plain sight in Auckland and a 5minute stroll from my house is the wonderful Doornuts.
Now, let me explain, I like donuts. Every pay day we have created a current tradition where we got to dunkin donuts and get one, or two. It’s the closest donut place on our way home. So one night I decided to google donut places near me and boy did google deliver.
Doornuts is a bakery that makes fresh donuts and other treats, but they aren’t just your standard donuts, oh no. Doornuts ups the game, the one I tried and had a sugar coma on was the smores donut. A freshly made donut covered in marshmallow meringue and Grahame crackers and then sprinkled in chocolate sauce. Basically heaven and I cant wait to go back.
Doornuts is located on K-Road and is a must if you’re in Auckland and a donut fan.
Come back next time for another instalment of discovering Auckland!
Honestly it baffles me how things can be right under our noses but takes months to discover them.
