Why do we poison ourselves

With words said by others

Why do we torture ourselves

From the actions of others

For people can judge what they want to see

To mask the truth

Of what you really are

But isn't it funny

One person who truly knows you

Can tell you how great you are

But you will ignore them

For those people who don't know you at all

Are telling you how awful you are

And sadly it's only the latter that our brains

Choose to believe

And we beat ourselves up

In such a toxic mindset

As the cycle repeats

And we loose sleep

For the thoughts eat our insides.
